In the early 1900's, Mr. C. E.
Cecil Mayo boarded a ship in England bound for Australia. He carried
with him samples of all sorts of products he had received from English
manufacturers who were keen to sell in Australia. After many weeks on board the boat he finally arrived in Australia and set about selling from the samples he had. He then boarded another ship and returned to England and passed over the orders he was able to get. For his service he was paid a commission. After many trips back and forth he finally decided to settle in Australia and in 1928 set up business and Cecil E. Mayo Pty. Ltd. was incorporated. At that time and for many years the company continued trading as agents for several English companies mainly in the hardware field. Mr. C. E. Cecil Mayo retired in 1950 whereupon his son David took over running the company. During David's term of office the company grew quite considerably to the point where upon his untimely death in March 2001, the company employed approximately 150 employees with offices in all the major states of Australia. The business had changed in that instead of acting only as agents, we now import the products and act as the sole Australian agents. We have added an exclusive range of medical goods. We import from many countries around the world. Today our Chief Executive Officer is David's daughter Sarah and the company is continuing to grow. Sarah's brother James is also on the board. |
